As we prepare for the Youth Symphony of the Southwest’s 2024-2025 season, we are announcing a few changes to our program. We are proud to introduce our new music director/conductor, Dr. Jeff Quamo. Check out his bio and a photo on the About YSSW page! Samara Humbert-Hughes will be our new YSSW administrator and contact person. You can also check out her bio and photo on the About YSSW page!
We are also making some positive changes to our orchestra program. Our rehearsals and concerts in the Fall are in direct conflict with the area high school marching band programs. Many wind, brass and percussion students want to perform with YSSW but have a commitment to their high school band. In order to provide a challenging and enjoyable music experience for all of our members, our September and October concerts will be performed by our string sections. They will be playing music from the vast library of string orchestra music that is available. The music for those programs is listed below. Beginning with rehearsals for the December concert, our winds, brass and percussion members will be joining us. See the audition page for more information.
Youth Symphony of the Southwest will be holding auditions for string players for the 2024-2025 season on August 5, 2024 . The auditions will be held from 5:00 pm - 8:00 pm, by appointment, at the Chandler High School Band Room (350 No. Arizona Ave, Chandler, AZ 85225).
Winds, Brass, and Percussion will join YSSW starting on November 4, 2024 for the December concert. Auditions for these instruments will be accepted via video submission (video submitted to ysswmail@gmail.com) by October 21. Please click “Learn More” for audition requirements.
